Today for Book Club you will be completing 2 roles- Character Profiler and Discussion Director

CHARACTER PROFILER

Learning Intention:

  • We are learning to find character traits using evidence from the text.

Success Criteria:

  • I can draw a detailed picture of my character.
  • I can find character traits of this character.
  • I can give evidence of this character trait by using the conjunction “because”

Character Profiler Activity: Draw a picture of one character from your Book Club text. Write 3-5 character traits with evidence. (e.g. Auggie is brave because he goes to school even though he looks different.) Remember that character traits are NOT emotions – they are the personality of the character.

These character traits should be evident in the current assigned chapters. Complete this task on the Book Club sheet in your Remote Learning pack.

Today you will be using the Indigenous Food Paragraph Planning (in pack) to organise the information you gathered last week on Indigenous Food in preparation for drafting the Food section of your Information Report tomorrow.

Learning Intention

  • We are learning to create a concise summary on the assigned Book Club chapters

     Success Criteria

  • I can concisely summarise the main points of assigned chapters of a book
  • I can discuss the characters, setting, problem, solution & message or favourite part of

Picture Summary: Draw 6 pictures with one sentence each of what happened in the text to show a summary of the story (worksheet in pack). Ensure this includes who, where, problem & solution of the chapters.

□ Summariser: What happened in these chapters of the book? Think about who, where, the problem, the solution and the message or your favourite part of the assigned chapters. Complete this on loose leaf paper.

  • We are learning to tune in to interesting and unknown words and find the meaning of these words.

     Success Criteria:

  • I can find interesting/unknown words in the text and take note of these (including page number)
  • I can try and use context clues to figure out what this words means (by using clues from the text around the word)
  • I can use a dictionary to find the meaning of the word
  • I can write the definition in my own words so I know what it means
  • I can verbally use the work in a different sentence

  • We are learning to draft and edit an information report section on The Dreamtime

Success Criteria:

  • I can include a sub heading
  • I can use the facts and details about The Dreamtime from my Informative  Prewriting template
  • I can write using paragraphs
  • I can use descriptive language and choose words carefully
  • I can edit my work and correct any errors

Activity:

Using your planning from yesterday, draft/write the Dreamtime section of your Indigenous History information report.

Once you have drafted your piece, go back over it and check for spelling and punctuation errors and see if you need to up level any vocabulary or sentence structure. Make sure you have produced the best work you can.

Think of how you could use descriptive language in this paragraph. You still need to engage your reader and try to create a picture in their mind.

Roll a dice/flip a card multiplication

E.g. If your counting pattern is 3 and you roll a 4 answer:         3 x 4 = 12

  • I can understand what the problem is asking me to do
  • I can decide which strategy is best to use
